Meredith Brown for Nature Conservancy Magazine

A few months ago I had the pleasure of photographing Meredith Brown for Nature Conservancy Magazine. I'm excited that I can finally release these images now that the publication is out!

Read on for the portraits, Meredith's background, BTS, and technical information from the shoot.

Meredith resides in Wakefield, Quebec, which is just outside of Ottawa. We shot at the Wakefield Covered Bridge as it features both great scenery by the river and a famous landmark of the town.

The story was going to talk about one of her favourite possessions - her paddle - so we made sure to include it in the portraits.

The paddle is beautiful and features various woods and even a personal engraving. It made using sustainably harvested, local wood by her friend Andy Convery, and given as a gift to her by her husband Ronnie.

We had an awesome shoot, and I loved having her dog Luna along for the experience!

Here's some background info on Meredith from Nature Conservancy:

"Meredith Brown, a champion for freshwater protection, is widely known throughout the vast Ottawa River Watershed as the founding executive director and Riverkeeper for the charitable organization Ottawa Riverkeeper, a licensed member of Waterkeeper Alliance.

Over 15 years, Meredith significantly raised the profile of the Ottawa River and brought together community organizations, municipal, provincial, federal governments, First Nation leaders, industry and civil society to work collaboratively to protect and restore the ecological health and resilience of the watershed. Over Meredith’s tenure, Ottawa Riverkeeper created a large network of dedicated citizen scientists and Riverwatchers. Meredith also strengthened the network of Canadian Waterkeepers, was a founding affiliate of the Waterkeeper Swim Guide and the National Water Centre. Still highly involved with Ottawa Riverkeeper, she now holds the officer position of Riverkeeper Emeritus."

Technical Information:

I used a combination of natural light and one Profoto B1X with a Deep White XL Umbrella. The strobe was triggered and controlled by Air Sync and Air USB. I used a Nikon D850 with a Sigma Art 85mm 1.4 lens, tethered (when possible) to CaptureOne Pro via TetherTools to my Apple MacBook Pro in an SKB case.
