Wendy Stephens for Maclean's
Recently I had the chance to photograph Wendy Stephens for Maclean's.
Wendy was a victim of police brutality during the Sex Garage Raid in Montreal in 1990, which was a pivotal moment for the LGBTQ2+ movement in Canada.
You can read about Wendy's story along with others over at Maclean's.
Scroll on for a couple portraits, a photo of old newspaper clippings, BTS, and technical information.
These are newspaper clippings from 1990 featuring a photo of her being beaten by police. This photo became a crucial part of exposing this raid to the Canadian public.
Technical Information:
I used one Profoto B10 with a Profoto Softlight Reflector (beauty dish) with grid and diffusion sock (second portrait) as the main light, with a B1X with a Deep White Medium Umbrella and diffusion behind me as fill. The strobes were triggered and by Air Sync. I used a Nikon D850 with a Sigma Art 50mm 1.4 lens, tethered to CaptureOne Pro via TetherTools to my Apple MacBook Pro in an SKB case.
